Whippet
History and Background
The Whippet is a sighthound breed originating in England. The breed was developed in the 18th century by miners in northern England, who sought a fast and agile dog for hunting rabbits, yet compact enough to fit into small homes. The Whippet is considered the fastest sprinter over short distances among the sighthounds, and can reach speeds of up to 58 km/h under optimal conditions. Over the years, the breed became popular in dog racing, especially in races known as “rag races,” in which the Whippet chased a piece of cloth.

Tips for Training and Educating the Breed
- Early socialization: It is important to expose the Whippet to a variety of people, animals, and environments from a young age in order to develop friendly and confident behavior.
- Consistent, positive training: Using positive reinforcement, such as treats and praise, will aid learning and reinforce the desired behavior.
- Physical activity: The Whippet needs daily activity, such as walks, running, and play, to prevent boredom and destructive behavior.
- Protection from cold: Due to its sensitivity to cold, it is recommended to provide the Whippet with warm clothing in cold weather.
