Chihuahua
History and Background
Chihuahua is a small but energetic dog breed, originating in Mexico and considered one of the smallest breeds in the world. Its name comes from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico, where it was first found in the 19th century. The Chihuahua is considered a descendant of ancient dogs used by the Maya and Aztec cultures for ritual purposes and even as companion animals. In the 19th century the breed became popular in the United States, and since then it has become famous around the world for its compact size, big personality, and its cute and distinctive appearance.

The Breed's Purpose Today
Today, the Chihuahua serves mainly as a beloved pet thanks to its small size and cheerful character. It is especially suited to life in apartments or small houses, but requires a great deal of attention and love. The breed is excellent as a companion for adults, but due to its fragile size it is less recommended for families with small children who could accidentally injure it.
Tips for Training and Educating the Breed
- Positive reinforcement: Praise and treats will help maintain the Chihuahua’s motivation during training.
- Early socialization: Exposure to people and dogs from a young age will help prevent fearfulness or aggression.
- Maintaining consistency: Consistency in routine and training will help the Chihuahua learn effectively.
- Protection from cold: Due to its sensitivity to cold, it is recommended to dress it in cold weather and avoid prolonged walks on cold days.
- Moderate physical activity: Despite its small size, the Chihuahua needs daily activity, such as short walks or play at home.
