Documented cases of dog poisoning due to exposure to cannabis are on the rise in countries such as the USA and Canada, where the plant has become more widespread.

CBD, a key component of cannabis, is receiving attention because of its anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety and pain-relieving properties. Preliminary studies show that it may ease chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety and epilepsy in dogs, but further research is needed to understand the effects and safe dosages. In contrast, THC, which is also found in cannabis, is harmful to dogs and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, loss of balance, increased drooling and even life-threatening conditions.
In Israel, as in other countries, the medical use of CBD for dogs is not broadly approved, and veterinarians face a shortage of evidence-based information. It is important to note that the use of cannabis for dogs must be carried out only under veterinary supervision and with dedicated products specially adapted for pets.
