The Finnish Lapphund breed exhibits several specific characteristics. Their life expectancy is typically 12–15 years. Both male and female Finnish Lapphunds weigh between 15–24 kg. Males stand at 46–52 cm, while females are 41–47 cm tall. They are adapted to cold climates but sensitive to heat, requiring supervision in hot weather. The breed has a high energy level. Their coat is a thick, water-resistant double coat with a long, coarse outer layer and a soft, dense inner layer, coming in varied colors including black, brown, cream, wolf-gray, and white. Hereditary diseases include a tendency toward hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as hereditary eye diseases.
